Rock chick Bonnie had her work cut out for her on the latest episode of Five Guys A Week – with her quest for love landing literally on her doorstep.
The 24-year-old York carer left romance in the hands of the Channel 4 matchmakers in a bid to see if they could find her a Mr Right.
Her options? Well… they were definitely one for the books.
There was ‘Mr Fifty Shades of’ Ray, who was unceremoniously dumped after hitting on another woman in front of her, vegan yoga teacher Eden, whose efforts in showing off his skills didn’t work and upper-class exercise instructor Ben who was on a mission to become an Iron Man champion.
Eventually, she was stumped between Charlie – a sensitive songwriter who even bust out his acoustic guitar with a track written just for her – and Ruben, a cheeky chappy engineering student.
After a bit of a debate, she went for Ruben to try and start a romance with.
But the question is, did they stay together after the experiment was over?
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Bonnie told us: ‘Ruben is really, really lovely and I think that we definitely clicked, but unfortunately, after the show, we just decided that we were going to stay friends.
‘I think that we both had a lot of stuff that was going on and and we live quite far away from each other. So we decided to to just stay friends.’
However, while the experiment may not have worked for her, Bonnie did get her happy ending after years of being single – and is now dating an DJ named Rufus.
‘Since then, I have completely fallen in love!’ she shared with us. ‘We’re together in Portugal. It’s really nice. We just walked across Spain – the Camino Santiago, which is like a 500 mile walk for charity.’
‘I just saw him DJing because it would be the sort of the thing and then I just went up to the decks in the club and gave him my number! It was very sassy,’ she laughed.
Overall, Bonnie explained that she enjoyed the show being able to give her autonomy over her romantic life – taking charge in a way that she hadn’t done before.
‘One thing which made me want to do the show, I think is, as a woman, there’s often a big fear of rejecting people, and I’d gone on a couple of dates with someone and then felt really guilty about not wanting to continue, or trying to think of all different reasons why I could not continue,’ she explained.
‘I think that’s sort of a people pleasing, female attribute which unfortunately again, it’s just really hard to say to reject people in a nice way.’
‘The show just gave me complete power to just say “no, I don’t think I really like you that much” and none of the lads that left, they were all happy to have been part of it and none of them were better or annoyed.
‘I just thought it was a really nice idea for a show and like and and finally giving women ownership of their relationship life, and not just being swept along with dates with someone you’re not that happy with, ending up going on more, them winning you round.
‘On the show, all that sort thing goes out the window – you just say Nope, nope, nope, nope, Ok!’
Five Guys A Week continues Fridays at 10pm on Channel 4.
