Tinder has unveiled a new feature this week that they’re calling ‘the biggest update since the invention of the original Swipe.’
Called ‘Explore’, this will allow daters to arrange potential matches by interest, and ultimately find exactly what they’re looking for in less time.
Categories will include Foodies, Social Causes, and Music Lovers, giving users a more detailed picture of the person they’re swiping right or left on.
Entrepreneurs and Gamers will also be among those represented, with people linking their profile to the hobbies they believe represent them best.
According to the company, Explore represents the biggest update to Tinder since the invention of the original Swipe feature. They added that, in early testing, nearly 80% of eligible members have flocked to try it.
‘A new generation of daters is asking for more from us in the post-Covid world: more ways to have fun and interact with others virtually and more control over who they meet on Tinder,’ said Jim Lanzone, CEO of Tinder.
‘Today’s launch of Explore is a major step in creating a deeper, multi-dimensional, interactive experience for our members that expands the possibilities of Tinder as a platform.’
Platforms like Hinge and Bumble have similar features, signalling a rise in a more holistic approach to dating than simply deciding by profile pictures and limited bios.
Tinder will be moving their Hot Takes experience nights to Explore, too, where members can chat with potential matches for a limited time to see how they get on (similar to speed dating but in a virtual space).
Explore has already rolled out for members in all major English-speaking countries, and will be available around the world by mid-October.
Now they just need an anti-ghosting capability and we’ll be golden.
