Sam Smith has admitted they were kicked off dating app Hinge because nobody believed they were the real Sam Smith.
The singer had signed up to a number of apps to look for romance during the coronavirus pandemic, as they revealed they found being single ‘difficult’.
However, Sam says they ended up being ‘chucked off’ Hinge as the company assumed it was a ‘catfish’ account.
Speaking to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Sam explained: ‘I’m still single, I’m on the front line with all the single people still and it’s been difficult. I’ve gone on all the apps and stuff.
‘I joined this dating site called Hinge in the UK, and they chucked me off of it after one night because they thought I was a catfish pretending to be me.’
As Andy joked to Sam that they should consider using Tinder as he could help get them verified on the app, they responded: ‘I need to, so I’m gonna do Tinder!’
It comes after the 28-year-old was spotted kissing furniture designer Francois Rocci while on a date in August, with witnesses saying that Sam ‘looked totally wrapped in the guy’.
The How Do You Sleep hitmaker had previously revealed how the lockdown had led them into using dating apps.
Speaking on Sirius XM, Sam said: ‘For the first two weeks I was like, “Oh my God, I’m single”. I went on this dating thing and it was the worst!
‘And then you get attached to guys, and then you’re forming quarantine relationships over the phone, it’s a dangerous path.’
They continued: ‘I think I want to be with someone older now. I need someone who has passions and has their own drive.
‘It’s nice to be able to date on your phone. I haven’t done it in years – I just want the romance.’
Sam was previously linked to 13 Reasons Why star Brandon Flynn, with the couple dating between September 2017 and June 2018.
