Sick of small talk? You might want to take a leaf at of this woman’s book.
Taylah Munro, who hasn’t had an official ‘boyfriend’ in years, came up with the idea to ‘stamp and go’ in a bid to skirt dating apps.
She’s found a unique way to make a connection: using a custom stamp to brand ‘good looking guys’ on nights out with her contact details.
She said she thought the custom stamp, which cost her £20 online and features her social media handle, vanillatrilla1, with the words ‘MY TYPE’ and ‘DM me’, would be a ‘funny and different way’ to meet men who share her ‘sense of humour’.
Taylah said: ‘It’s something different. If you have a sense of humour that matches mine then you’ll see the funny side of it.’
After hearing about Taylah’s plan in the group chat, her friends instantly egged her on.
‘They were like “this is the funniest idea you’ve ever had. We’re so excited to see how this pans out”,’ she said. ‘I’m quite outgoing and do these random funny things anyway, so they obviously found it funny, but they said “this is so typical of you”.’
While her first attempt to use the pick-up technique at a festival on August 21 left much to be desired in terms of ‘stamp worthy’ matches, Taylah’s head was finally turned by a ‘stunning’ man at a club.
A video of the 27-year-old nightclub hostess using the unorthodox method on her clubbing crush has attracted more than 1.4 million views and 159,000 likes, prompting some men, including those she has never met, to falsely claimed to have been stamped by Taylah.
Taylah, from Newham, East London, actually found success with her stamp-and-go strategy.
‘The boy in the video is actually the only person that I stamped,’ she said. ’After that, we started talking in the club and exchanged phone numbers. We’ve been in contact since.’
She continued: ‘At first when I stamped him, he was really confused. He was like “am I being kicked out the club or something?”
‘I was like “no, look at the stamp”. He just smiled and said “your type? What’s your name?”
‘After that we exchanged contacts and he bought me a drink. He was actually really nice.’
Unfortunately for Taylah, the man she stamped doesn’t live in London, but she said they’ll stay in touch.
While the stamp was a success, Taylah said she isn’t ‘specifically going out looking for a boyfriend’.
‘If it happens it happens,’ she said, ‘and I’m having fun along the way.’
After blowing up online, Taylah’s DMs have been ‘absolutely insane’.
‘So many guys have messaged me like “hey, you stamped me in the club the other day”.
‘I’m going to know who I’ve stamped. They’re faking it to get a reply but it’s not going to happen.
‘Even on Wednesday, I got about 100 messages from people like “you stamped me the other day – where do we go from here?”
‘I see the funny side and appreciate the effort but I’m not going to reply to them.’
Luckily, the first man she stamped didn’t mind having his 14 minutes of stardom on TikTok. ‘He was fine with it,’ confirmed Taylah.
While last week was only a partial success, Taylah said she’ll be out with her stamp again this weekend.
’We’ll try again,’ she added.
